Default Auto pilot on power steering

I am in the process of buying a boat with hydro slave power steering, what do I need to do to install auto pilot? The boat has 3 stations with one of them being joy stick steering. I've done auto pilot with hydrolics but never power steering. Most likely looking at Simrad auto pilot. Thank you

The best way I found is to use selenoid valve like a Nachi so you can use the jog lever at the rear station. It will need a flow control if not already part of your hyd syst. and usually a hyd shop has a board all set up for this. You might have to speed up the flow to the high side of the one supplied or need to get a higher flow spool valve if its too small. No big deal as its usually a trade in. To give you an idea on my simrad syst., I needed a 3.9GPM and then adjust as it can be adjusted about 30% +- . The autopilot wants a min speed that you can find in the owners manual(8-11 sec lock to lock I believe) but not to fast or can steer to fast and throw people around. My syst has worked great with no problem and an easy install but make sure you get the rate compass that I think are the only choice now.
Good luck!!
