Default GPS antena

I fish the Pensacola Fl area and mostly inshore and up to ten miles off shore on a real good day. I plan to get a GPS in the $600 or $700 range like the Garmin 498. Its going in my center console. Should I get an enternal antena or the external? The enternal makes a clean install . Would I really notice a diff between the two antenas ;? ;?

Willie, if you do a search here you'll find enough threads on the subject to keep you occupied for hours. I have no experience with the internal antenna but from reading many posts here a lot of members have had fairly good luck with the internal antenna. As long as you have a clear view of the sky, an internal antenna should be sufficient. Just keep in mind that your mounting location should also be taken into consideration. Mounting too close to other electronics could result in less than stellar satellite fix capabilities. Good luck.

Go with the clean install, you'll never know the difference ...

I have the 498 internal, and as the others say, in your use you will most likely see no difference. About the "clean install," bear in mind you can't really flush surface mount the 498 internal.
