Default Northstar M84 Display...Uh oh......!!!!

Ouch...picked up my brand new Sea Hunt Ultra today. Had the Northstar M84 flush mounted. The display is awful!!! It's so dim that I had to stand out of the way to let the sun get on it to see anything! Okay, to answer your questions, yes, I did read the book. Yes, I did hit the power button twice to get the brightest display (15), and no, it's not in night mode. Yes, I've had fishfinder-chartplotter combos before, and yes, both were under t-tops.

Anyone had this problem? I'm serious...this thing is awful. My old Lowrance color finder/plotter is FAR better in brightness.

Help!!!

I had a Navman 8120 (M120) in my old boat. I never had a problem with screen brightness. A couple of things to keep in mind. It should be installed directly in front or to the left of helm for best brightness. If you are wearing polarised sunnies, you will not see any screen detail at all if it is install to the right of helm.

Sense you have already answered all of your own questions, suggest you take it back where you
bought it or call the manufacturer for help.
And what does he do with the big fat hole in his console????? This sucks but I guess you have to live with it and figure out what to do with it. Maybe you just got a bum display????

Yes...it was brand new. First look at it revealed the problem. I made the mistake of buying online, so no immediate solution by going to a store and swapping out. Northstar customer service responded quickly to an email I sent them, and they're sending a replacement. I'll re-post when I get that one installed, and let anyone interested know what the results are. There are probably a few M84 shoppers out there wondering, as I would be if I'd read this.
