Default Garmin Radar vs XM Sattelite

If you could only have one option would you rather have radar capability or the XM weather and why.

Thanks

RADAR!! Do you use the boat for fishing? Do you run the boat at night? If so to either of these, buy the RADAR!

Just my 2cents!

They have different uses. You really should have both. The Radar is for poor visability navigation. The XMWeather will help keep you out bad weather. I have had both and the XM got used the most, pretty much daily in the summer time, but the radar is a great tool at night and during fog/rain.

Correct answer would be " Depending on where you live.." Florida - some will argue that XM weather would be the way to go, due to almost daily thunder storms. In the NE, Radar, we get fog late spring early summer almost daily..

It is for fishing in SC. Not to much night work.

If the limitation is money, get the weather first. You can usually stay out of the dark, but you can't stay out of the weather. I would have said exactly the opposite last year, when I had radar but no weather depiction. My radar could see MAYBE 16 miles, (at best a half-hour warning) and I could try to get out of the way of embedded storm cells, but a sailboat only goes so fast. With XM weather I can see what's coming my way in an hour or so, and have time to really go where it should be safer.

Am I missing something? If you're out on the water and a thick fog rolls in, does xm satellite display ships, boats and any number of other potential obstructions? I don't think so!! However, a good radar will not only save you from running into a moving object, it will also show thunder storms. I say get a good radar first then save up for xm.

Depends how far offshore you fish and if you fish at night very much. I love the XM weather when I am 70 miles offshore, but it will not see in the dark or in the fog!!!

Again, Rader! I live in Savannah Area and I can see a storm or anything in the way with the radar. I have both XM and Radar, however radar is my first choice.
