As if the birds nest in the leaning post and busted jack weren't enough, I turned on the gps for the first time this season and it came on fine but no picture whatsoever. I can here it beeping but no picture on the screen. Last season the screen did get to much direct sunlight and blacked out till it cooled down with the help of a towel covering it but seemed to be fine. I contacted garmin and while on hold apparently worked my way through the menu blind and got to the contrast and brightness settings and was able to turn the backlight up till visible. But today it seems to be back to dark. Any ideas?

In a bright light, look at it from the side to see if there's an image on the screen. Then get both you and the unit in dark shade to try this: With the unit on (it beeped) tap the power/backlight button once, then tap the up arrow a few times. Tap the right arrow a few times. Then call Garmin.
