Default Garmin G2 Vision chart

Currently have the 4210 and 4208 units networked, I have the XM weather , GSD22, GDL30A, radar etc. Maybe I dont know how to use it ( havent had to read the manual yet ) units are really intuitive, but I dont get what I just spent $430 for. I bought it primarily for the Bathy charts offshore - canyons deep drops etc , but was told about all these other features. Am I missing something or do I need to just sit down and study the manual? I get the 3-D functions but is that it?

Just sit down and play and go thru ALL the menus and screens. There are some menus and screens that aren't in the owners manual.

I have had the older versions of Garmin's software and now have the G2 bathymetric card. One of the major differences that I noticed was a lot more detail in underwater structures. That is to say...the older versions had just a few wrecks, underwater capped wells, etc. The newer software has many more points that may get you to good fishing spots. That, in my opinion, is worth the extra bucks to get the G2 cards.

I guess I have to put more time in and access more screens. I know a large part of the addl cost was for the Large version. The 3D satelite images are cool but really only 3D Fish eye would be used offshore or out of sight of land. So far Garmin is great. Also how do you access the Auto Guidance? Its mentioned in the packet , but when you open up no info? thanks

Prior, the unit was really quick. It definately slowed it down cosiderably. I have networked 2 screens so it wont matter much once im going, I really only needed it for the offshore contour and ledges etc. So ill leave that on one screen and use the other for anything else. I dont really see the need for all the satelite bells and whistles but they are cool to look at. It would be nice if they sold a Bathy chart for offshore.

The bathy charts embedded in the G2 Vision Charts are quite detailed, however, you have to be on the 1.2 mile range scale and below to see this detail. At .5 miles if you have an XM Weather subscription the SST info will mute and all you'll see is the contour lines.

You can alsoconfigure the detail of theoverhead photo setupyou see. You do this by choosing Chart Setup > Appearance > Photos. By choosing less it substantial speeds up the processing. Here'sa video.

Bluewater, I know the Bathy is in there. I just think for people that just want the offshore contour, and fish eye it could be offered separately w/out the satelite images etc. As far as detail they are good , similar to Northstar, Furuno , etc.. what I would expect for $420.00. I am very happy with units and the ease of use, I quess I was prepared to be overwhelmed by the G2 vision and really wasn't. Love the units, just dont get the 3D thing I suppose regardless of mfg.
