Default Carolina Classic 35 Transducer Placement

Looking for in input for the best place to put a transducer on a 35 Carolina Classic. Got a used late model one and the exisiting transducer is located just off the centerline about a foot in from the stern. It reads bottom fine at speed in shallow water but cannot hold the bottom as the water gets deeper. Seems to me that this wouldn't be the best place to have it and I'm leaning towards moving it in front of the props.

Ahoy;Cap't Dave

Not only ahead of the props but ahead of the shaft logs. Location, location, location; is the key thing with transducers. A transducer has to be located so it's face is in a clean/clear flowing water area under your craft. Any air/water mixture that passes over the transducer's face will cause the loss of the sonar's signal, and poor preformance.

Best to watch your wake; a various speeds to see where the best-most clear/airless water is flowing under your hull. Next is make sure that the flairing block used in mounting the transducer is large/long enough so it allows the water flowing along it and the transducer's face does not cause any cavitation bubbles in the flowing water. Then make sure there is not any other thur hull fittings which are located ahead of it, that might cause cavitaion bubbles.

Not an easy job,but then again not that hard to do correctly.

I would ask at the CC owners website. From what I've seen they place them in front of the starboard motor or better yet call the president of CC, Mac Privott, he'll be more tham happy to help
