Default TR-1 not working right

Most of you know that since the early days of this autopiolit I have been a huge fan, and I still am!!! Recently mine seems to be having a problem that when its turned on it shows the boat on my chart plotter as facing in the wrong direction even though the track is heading right. Each tim eI go through the recalibration procedure and then which it works for a while only to loose its heading again. Has anyone else had this problem?

Default RE: TR-1 not working right

I had a TR-1 Gladiator installed on my new boat and was told that it was calibrated by the installers at the dealership.
My unit does the exact same thing as you described and it does not operate correctly.

I was advised by Garmin's TR-1 autopilot support to go through the Dockside Setup and Sea Trial Setup again.

I plan on taking it out to the bay when it's calm....it's just been too windy down here in Corpus Christi to find a good day for a calibration.
I hope that this fixes my problem.....

Do you guys have your TR-1 autopilot NMEA out to your chart plotter? If so you need to check COG verse Magnetic Heading. I have seen before where you can run your chart plotter and TR-1 in True heading and it will correct the problem. The TR-1 has a setting for True North. What I need to know is if the COG and Mag Heading are lining up or not. Let me know if you don't understand what I am talking about and I will elaborate. Good Luck.

My Garmin 3010C unit had course over ground (COG), but I cannot find COG on the 5012 unit.

I am having the same problem. I went through the entire set up yesterday and every time I have TR1 on it makes the boat icon on the 5212 turn about 10 degrees to the left, when it is off it fixes itself.

Anyone have an answer on this yet?

You know mine does this as well so we are moving in the right direction however the boat icon is a little off, in my case it's off to the right. I'll look into it.

No doubt Hot To Trot will help you guys. But why cant garmin do anything to help? Did they purchase something they know nothing about? Sounds like somebody should make HTT one hell of an offer.
