Default where am I going?

updated my Raymarine E120 with their new software upgrade (4.2) before heading offshore this weekend and had some interesting results: my autopliot and compass headings are off my 40 degrees. when you set a course in the chartplotter to a waypoint it gives you the correct bearing to the waypoint but the heading is way off and you have to contantly adjust the heading on the auto pilot to stay on course. Anby suggestions how to sync back up the autopilot? Now I know why we keep a fixed compass on board!

where is your compass located? maybe you put something ferrous too close to the compass? try taking a hand held compass and hold it where the autopilot compass is located to see if there is some kind of magnetic deviation in that area.

Just a guess as I don't have one, but it sounds like you have a course offset setting that was set to 40 degrees off. Updating your firmware reset all the settings (including the course offset) back to the factory default setting.

I think Jim is probably right on. You should first try recalibrating your heading sensor. I don't have a Ray, but usually this involves the "driving in circles" method, though some units will auto-calibrate, but you still may need to put the unit in a certain mode to have it do this. The manual should have instructions.
