Replace them. You are on "borrowed time"

Waiting until they fail or leak makes no sense

Default RE: optima battery life

I have an Optima battery that is also about 4-5 years old. When I read about them, and heard about them, and told about them by the salesman at Batteries Plus, he said" Yeah they're the best, it'll outlast any regular battery by 2-3 times." Well lately it doesn't seem to be holding a charge. I thought it was my charger so I bought a new one that tells the % of charge and voltage of the battery. It started out with some kind of error on the charger. So i had to try a few times to charge it. Finally it took a charge, reading 100% charge. I didn't use it, let it sit overnight and checked it again in the morning. It read 40%. It's a real pain in the butt when you go away for fishing-weekend and you have your $189 battery running out on you 3/4 of the way thru the day. On top of it, put it on the charger till noon the next day before it's fully charged. Overall I'm very disappointed with the lifespan of the "best" battery out there. I ended up buying a regular deepcycle battery, the biggest one I could find. Took it out fishing for an afternoon and used only 10% of it's charge. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND OPTIMA TO ANYONE. That's all I got. Thanks for letting me vent.

Six years on my pair of Optimas and so far so good. IMO, four years on a battery in a marine environment is pretty good service. I plan to give the Odysseys a try if these damm Optimas will just finally crap out.
