Default One more Furuno 600 question:

The Nav. screen on the Furuno is showing Nautical miles. I do not see a menu item on the Furuno or the RL70CRC that is feeding the Furuno that will let me change to Statute miles?

PS Thanks for the hook-up advice Thom.

I'm just doing this from memory so I might be off by a click or two.

Hit your Menu button and the first screen will light up. Use your down arrow to go to the bottom and past it by one click. An auxillary set of 3 different menus will pop up. Each menu page has about a half a dozen user selectable set up changes you might choose. The second item in the first setup menu will give you the choice of units of measure for distance and speed. The second setup menu continues with lots of other stuff, and the third setup menu is for Ranges and bottom lock offsets if I remember correctly.

Default One more Furuno 600 question:

Thom, the first menu has a setting for speed: MPH vs. KPH. But there is no setting for nautical vs. statute miles.

I did change the speed to MPH and it reads correctly. However, I have it set up to show a data box on the sounder screen showing Range and Bearing. The Range shows in Nautical miles.

I checked all the menu items and it does not seem to have an adjustment for changing to Statute miles. It is not a huge issue since I can show the range in SM on the Raymarine. If you have any suggestions, I'll give 'em try.

Thanks, Scott

The final word. Furuno has quick response customer email service. I got my answer in a day! Too bad it was not what I wanted to hear. It is still one fine fish finder! See below:

Hello. I just installed a Furuno FCV600L and have hooked the NMEA output from my plotter for the Nav. functions. I cannot get the 'Range' to read in Statute miles. Am I missing something? Thanks, Scott

Thank you for contacting Furuno USA, Inc.

Scott:

Unfortunately, the FCV 600L will not display Range/Bearing in Statute Mile. Wish I had better news for you.
Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Have a nice day!
John

I'm not absolutly sure on this but I think that the charts produced by the Army Corps of Engineers for the Western Rivers use statute miles.

I'm sorry to have implied that there was a setting for statute miles, I just sort of thought there was one, possibly from the fact that you can display speed on the 600L in statute miles per hour I guess. At least it seems to point out how much attention I pay to stuff .... not much

C'mon Thom. Considering my entire choice of electronics stemmed from reading your posts, I don't think that not memorizing the entire menu option menus of a depth sounder is grounds for whacking yourself on the head.

Of course since, in a round about way, it is your fault I spent all the money that could have gone into my wife's kitchen counter tops on electronics, you may get some nasty-posts from her (if she finds out.) Thanks for all.
