Default Garmin 2006C page/quit button problem

I have a 6 month old 2006 C and 2 weeks ago the page / quit buttons became intermittent. If they did page (fwd.) or quit (back) they would only go 1 step. I called Garmin and they forwarded me a new 5.10 software data card.
Installed the card, software did not upgrade to 5.10 and the problems remains the same.

I called Garmin again today. Cust service mentioned that there is not a 5.10 software release and I'll probably have to send the unit back. It is flush mounted so I have my work cut out for me.

Anyone else experience these problems??

Thanks in advance.

Don't understand your problem BW. Each depression of the Page button moves you one page or screen back and each depression of the Quit button moves you one screen forward. Am I misunderstanding the problem??? Exactly what is your unit doing??

ditto gm's comments -- sounds like it's doing what it's supposed to...scroll a page/screen view forward or backward, one at a time.

what do you think it should be doing instead?

I think he means it goes one and then he can't get it to page again, like the button is jammed or something.

kamper is correct.
I can't scroll through the displays more than 1 display forward or back. The buttons beep, beep, beep when I press them a 2nd or 3rd time.

I feel it is a software problem not a hardware/button problem.

Thoughts?

I'm still learning this unit. Can I perform a "system reset" ? The unit and manuals are 3 hours away and I'm looking for suggestions.

If there is no change next weekend, the unit will have to be removed(fixed mount) and sent back to Garmin.

More as it develops.

You're right, they don't have 5.10 software. The most current is 5.00. Is that what you are running ?

Did you purchase the unit from a reseller who stands behind his products ? Perhaps you can get them to take it back or give you a loaner while it's being repaired. It's a $2,000 unit, hopefully they will try to help you out. I have the same unit and I would hate to part with it for however long it took to ship it to them to fix it.

As for the manuals, here's a link where you can download them. Hopefully this helps: http://www.garmin.com/manuals/41.pdf

need a little more info.....

hit the "menu" button twice, to get to...you guessed it... the main menu.

scroll down to the "pages" entry, then report to us what you see -- as in which pages have check marks on it, and what is your "first page."

let us know.

Gentlemen,
The unit is 3 hours away so I can't try the menu, menu test. But I read the link with the manual. Page 55 mentions how to "configure" the page button.
>enables main page to be shut off, turned on or jumped to <

Landlubber,
Do you think I have the button configured wrong?
I possibly changed the defaults while playing with the unit.

I'll triple check this weekend.
Thanks for the ideas.

Dave

you might only have one page "checked" to show/display. the others are suppressed, so to speak.

thus, you can scroll and page and "quit" all you want, and still only get one page to display.

meantime, i remain envious of your BIGBIGBIGBIG display compared to my 188c!!!'

landlubber,

You are "correct" !!! Thanks a million. I supressed/dis-abled the other pages by mistake.

Unit works fine. On another note, how do I or can I configure the 2006 to,

Have the display pan or follow my current position underway. (range 2 nm)
I currently use the "pad" to update the display for my current position.

Thanks again.

BW 23-
If your unit is not scrolling the "arrow cursor" must also be visble. The unit is in the mode that allows you to point to an area on the chart and by pressing the ENTER button for about 2-3 seconds, will open a window that allows you to save that specific spot as a waypoint. If you just press "QUIT" one time, you will go into auto scroll ot "PAN" mode.

Every time you press the "Arrow Pad" and the little pointer comes up, auto scrolling stops. You have to manually press quit to return to auto scroll. I have done this so many time I don't even think about it anymore, somehow quit gets pressed every time now. You will get used to it.
