Default Mounting Garmin 2010C

I have recently ordered a boat - Pursuit 2470 Walkaround. I am thinking about using the 2010C and a Furuno 582L. I am concerned about the sheer size of this unit when flush-mounted - the concern being the very large hole in the console. I would appreciate the input of those who have flush-mounted this unit.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about a hole...if you upgrade in a few years you might want to redo using Starboard...here's what I did. You'll note in the top left of the console you can just see a NAVPOD which I mounted my GPS in. Their great if you really don't want to cut a hole. I personally think flush mount is the way to go for a professional look. All of my setups are covered with a Lexan cover to keep the eyes 'out.' As an aside you'll note that the VHF, GPS, and Radar are right in my face. This is what you need to get home. www.consumersmarine.com sells them.

I chose the 2006C for the very size reason. I spoke with some other BW owners and they sent me pictures of their installs. The templets Garmin supplies with the unit make the hole cutting very simple.

I went with the 2006C for the simple reason that I didn't have enough room to flush mount the 2010C. I'm extremely happy with it. I'm running a Grady White Marlin 30 and it fits perfect. It's viewable picture is considerably smaller than the 2010C though. It is even smaller than the 2006monochrome but more than sufficient. Good luck.

Great boat (I have a '99).

You should have no trouble with the 2010c and Furuno unit as long as they fit. Certainly no structural problem on the pursuit. I would NOT mount either on top...the top of the console is pretty high already and with a high windshield, it may (will) block your view a bit more than you'd like...certainly the 2010 will. Of course if you're 6'6", ignore that. Similar, if the windshield get's dirty or the wiper isn't cleaning it and you want clear vision, you don't want something hanging down from the hardtop because it will be in the way ... again, that high windshield...good protection from spray, but can be a visibility issue. If you're 5'9" or so, you may find yourself standing on the footrest to see at time.

I have a 182 and 240 flush mounted...very neat install...certainly, I'd rather have your chosen electronics

One of them will be off center...so make sure that it's easily readable off center (should not be a problem, but check). Wear polarized glasses? check the screens with your sunglasses on before you buy...especially the one that will be off center.

You can also use pods, but that adds expense and won't look as good. Thinking upgrade later....you'll probably sell the whole boat before you upgrade either unit you're looking at.

Thanks for the replies. They echo many of my own thoughts. I really am impressed with the Garmin and will probably go that way, but I'm going to map out the units on the console to see if it works. I want to leave room for a future autopilot also.

I have the 2870 and i think your dash is similiar.I went with the 2006C, auto pilot and RL70 radar flush mounted, radio is flush mounted on the side by driver seat, sonar is on swivel mount on flat part of dash by grab bar which makes it easy to see from a distance. The 2006 seems big enough, You might add the sonar option for backup to your Garmin, it wasnt available when i did mine. Good Fishing..Bob
