Default LCD Lights coming on strong

I've got them on my trailer (love 'em) and have seen them as taillights on schoolbuses. I also have some in a small headlamp.

They draw approx. 80% less current vs. incandescent bulbs but certainly cost more upfront.

Has anyone seen them for running lights, backlights for gauges, livewell lights, courtesy lights, etc?

Any guesses on how long will it be before they are mainstream?

FWIW I've been buying the LED lamps off of eBay, those with the std bayonet style base, and have been replacing high-amp draws one where I can.

I also used them to create backlighting for an instrument panel ... they sure work slick and the amp draw is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down there !

I hadn't thought of Ebay. Will go check it out - thanks. I want to put one in each baitwell and one in my CC. If Ebay has good prices then it's a no-brainer.

Baldy:

Should have added this. Believe it or not, Radio Shack has a great assortment of LED lamps too. Not tinned wire on the leads, but at the micro-amps they draw and with the lamp potted (sealed) it shouldn't be an issue. Plus at $2-3 each ... who cares?

I'd use crimp connectors sealed with 3M 5200, then covered with heat shrink, "ala Thom's concept", and you should be good to go !

I've got 6 Perko's illuminating the cockpit of my big boat (28ft'r) and also have um on both trailers - love um & in adition to their low current draw, they're problem free.

Where'd you get those John M? Were they the "shark eye" variety?
