Default Garmin 188C discontinued?

Is the Garmin 188C staying around? West Marine doesn't list it in their 2003 catalog. Hate to buy something that is going to be discontinued.

Default Garmin 188C discontinued?

I am pretty sure it is discontinued in favor of the 182c and the black box depth/fish finder. But don't sweat it, I used to own the 135gps sounder which was quickly discontinued and Garmin will continue to support their discontinued products. Personally I like the all in one unit and the fact that I don't have to fiddle with a separate black box unit.

Default Garmin 188C discontinued?

A salesman told me that the 188c will be discontinued in 2004. If you shop around you can buy a 182c and GSD20 w/ducer for a few $ less than the 188c.

Default Garmin 188C discontinued?

I just got off the phone with a representative from Garmin and he stated that this product is far from being discontinued for two reason: 1) it's there best seller and 2) it's a new product that came out on the market last October.

Hope that helps

There you go, we still know nothing. Who is right?

But I would concur, I would not buy a product knowingly it was or will be discontinued.

Unbeknownst to me, a few years back I bought an expensive JVC VCR (new) which was being discontinued. Very long story made short: this unit was filled with parts ranging from new to 7 years old. It was filled with any and all left over stock; some of the parts where even obsolete while the units was still being sold in stores! It was a battle but at least JVC came good in the end.

So personally, I would want a definitive answer before I put any money down on the Garmin model expressed.

Once bitten, twice shy
