Default Purchasing a GPS for my son's boat

Looking for information on which type of GPS would some of you recommend for my son's boat. We both are new to the boating sport and have no idea on what make to purchase or type of GPS to have installed on the boat. We will be fishing mostly in Long Island Sound and off the coast of Rhode Island. Please, we can use some help in this matter. We can be contacted at Gyzac@aol.com.

How big a boat did you get and do you have a very large dash space to mount it on or in?

For the cost, you cannot go wrong with the Standard Horizon 5" gps map plotters...

Give us a price range. You can get a Handheld for around $150, up to a computer based display for up to $10,000.
