A friend is giving me, yes giving me, nice guy....a Hummbird 400TX. I am VERY apprehensive about putting a hole in the hull for a transducer. Has anyone used the Airmar InHull products? Do they work? Opinions please...thanks!

AIRMAR is the biggest producer of transducers. Reputation is A+.

I have a thru-hull in my boat that I purchased new last year. I had no hesitation in having another hole drilled through the bottom. After all, a lot of boats have muliple holes in the bottom for water pickups, baitwells, etc.

I'm not sure I would do it for a HUMMINGBIRD, though!

I've got one of those and it works OK. Nice big screen, lots of options for sensitivity, display speed, zoom, contrast.
Could your friend give you the transducer off the transom as well? That's how it comes from the store, with a 90° "tri-beam" transducer. Also, there's an optional separate paddlewheel speed and temperature block that will help you with trolling speed and locating rips. It's a pretty good unit.

If you going to put a hole in your boat for a fishfinder, do it for something worth the time and money. NOTt on a HUMJOB! Probably more accurate witout a transducer at all!
Been there,wish I hadn't done that!
