If you have one already (or if someone is giving you one dirt cheap or free), and it works acceptably, OK.

If you are buying a new radio, spend just a few $$$ more and buy ICOM (my personal preference) or STANDARD. Either of these brands is a top quality radio.

Uniden is second rate? Here we go again. LOL

I have a Uniden with the West Marine badging on it (marketed as the WM Aurora Plus) and I have had it for 5 years+ and it still works like a champ and it's on its second boat but I have a 4 foot whip now.

Now, when I had a full 8 foot Shake Galaxy on my Wellcraft, I could talk to anyone just the same as those with higher $ radios.. I don't disagree that ICOM and SH may be better, but ya have to ask, better than what? 25 watts is 25 watts and unless you have a $$$ in electronics, you don't need all the extra bells and whistles that they have...

I don't need it, so it's not worth it to me! Uniden is fine with me...

Just my .02...

Now, when my Uniden finally craps out, I MAY go with an Icom or SH.. It all depends on the features. I like mine because I turn it on, push two buttons and I have my scan running and WX alerts activated. That's all I need and want... Keep it simple is my motto...

Default Uniden VHF?

I had my first problem with my Uniden Solara on the last trip... For some reason I could not transmit on ch. 15.

Channels 16, 9, 68, 69 were good. I'm baffled.
This is after 16 months of excellent performance from the entry level Uniden.
