What, exactly, does a chartplotter do?

Gives you a map of your area, shows your boats location on that map, gives you coordinates of where your boat is at. Stores waypoints and gives you distance and steering instructions to a waypoint you pick.

Did I forget anything?

Works in conjunction with an autopilot (if there is one there) to get you where you are going in the most efficent way possible.

Works in conjunction with a DSC radio to use the DSC feature.

Has a trip computer to give detailed information about your boats use.
