Default GP7000F/ NT shallow water issues

i am looking at buying this unit. i did a search and read a few posts about this unit locking up in water under 10 feet. any comments appreciated as i frequently fish in water less than 10 feet in depth.

I have mine rigged to a tilted element thru-hull transducer. Now, my deadrise is 16 degrees, which puts me smack in the middle of the two transducer ranges (12 and 20) so my performance is not optimum but is still very good. I lose bottom if the seas are very agitated and the bottom is very sandy and I'm under 5 feet or so, otherwise I am fine. On harder bottoms or cleaner water, I've done fine right up through my power range.

BTW, the issue with shallow water readings is often because people have it set to 50K instead of 200K. 200K is better for shallow water.
