Default Lawrance LMS-522C igps

I am looking for a GPS/Fish Finder for my new Sea Hunt 186. I fish in the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.
Any suggestions on the Lawrance LMS-522C igps or any other GPS/Fish Finder? This guy runs about $600. I wonder if thereis a good GPS/Fish Finder in the $300 range.

Thanks

Al

$366.75 (Scuba Steves http://www.scubasteve.biz/store/manu...ance/combo.htm). Great Service.

I had a Lowrance X135. The unit was great in shallow water (less than 100'). The 522C uses the same transducer and should give similar performance. I belive you will be happy with the performance.

I will not recomend any combo unit with less than 5" screen. Go for the LMS-522C igps or the equivalent Eagle, excellent units for shallow water. For deeper waters LMS-527 DF igps would be a better choice since it also has 50khz. Eagle FishElite 642 iGPS and SeaCharter 642 DF iGPS are almost identical to LMS 522 and 527 but a bit cheaper. I've seen SeaCharter 642 DF iGPS for $575. Eagle also has 5" units with lower screen resolution (320x240). You can get SeaCharter 502C DF iGPS for $445, but I think the 640x480 resolution of the SeaCharter 642 DF iGPS is worth the extra $.

I got the LMS 520c and have been happy with the results so far. Kinda expensive though but well worth the money. I upgraded from the X125 that came with the boat.

pastaman1234,

I don't plan to put a T-top for my Sea Hunt 186, it will have a Bmini Top though. What is the reason for not going with igps if I'm flush mouting ? Does this mean if I just top mount it in a bracket then it will be ok?

Thanks

Al

For what it's worth, I put a LMS522igps on my sea-pro to replace a LMS480, so I already had the LGC2000 antenna. The display is mounted on the console behind the winshield, the reception is much better with the external ant, most likely because it's mounted above everything else. If you have the room, get the external (LMS520/ LGC3000), it's usually the same price.

The Lowrance internal units cannot be flush mounted because the internal antenna protrudes out the back of the case where the unit would surface mount. That is why you do not see any flushmount kits listed for them.

Rock, just bought the same boat and have ordered the same Lowrance 522c. With transducer it runs about $650. What engine did you get?

Scuba steve has the 522i as does BOE electronics. Also, the Lowrance maps of the whole country can be had for about $60 if you shop around.

i bought an 1800 dollar unit from lowrance under 2.5 years ago. the screen lights up blank now. they told me they cannot fix that unit anymore - i remind u it is less than 3 years old. i will never spend another penny on any lowrance product. their costomer service is nonexistant.
