Default Furuno 1622 - Black hole effect at short range

I am having the same problems as the other person with blackout at short range 1/8 and 1/4 mile. I was wondering if anyone who has the 1622 had similar problems and if the timing adjustment corrected it. Also the 1622 doesn't have the main bange suppression either under the installation menu.

I am going to try reset the timing as described Hopefully this will correct the black hole effect. The last thing I want is not to see the channel markings at night under the low scale. Thats what I bought it for! If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

It is almost certain that the timing is set wrong and is causing your problem, especially if you've never set it. You should set it according to the instructions in your manual. It's fairly common on the 1622 for the timing to be off when first installed and have the dark hole in the middle.

Thanks Clint,
I tried setting it today (sing a big open field and a building but I couldn't get far enough away to see the building. so I just reset the unit back to the factory setting and will set it up when I go back to the shore along the breakwall. You guys are the best at three rivers. I use to live in PGH and you were always very helpful with my dads electronics.
Thanks again,
Pete
