Default HD-SIG-MISS msg on my Furuno 1751 Mk II radar

The last time I had my boat out, I noticed that HD-SIG-MISS was displayed on my radar screen. The manual states this means heading signal miss and to check the antenna cable. My boat is kept 3 hrs away from my house so I wanted to get some advice from THT electronics experts before I went down this w/e to check it out. Something tells me it may not be as simple as a loose cable but hopefully so. Also, I noticed when marking a boat in front of me, it would display as showing on the stern on the display screen. Could this be related to the HD-SIG-MISS issue? Thanks for any suggestions on trouble shooting this issue.

The heading signal occurs once per revolution of the scanner; it "tells" the processor to start the display at the top of the screen. So yes, what you're seeing regarding targets is caused by the missing heading signal. It could be a loose connection, but probably not the main cable connection to your display.

It could be a loose connection inside the radome (check your manual, but from the one on Furuno's web site it would appear to be the black wire going to J2), a broken wire within the antenna cable, or a problem inside the display unit. Depending on your electronic skills you may be able to find the problem using the schematics in the manual, or just call in a repair shop.

You may want to call Furuno's tech service, they are excellent to deal with and know what they're talking about.

Check the rubber belt that turns the antenna. I'd bet it's off or has broken.

I have the same radar. I just removed it from the boat to replace it with a newer style. I had that message last summer a couple of times. There was a screw through a part of the tower leg that had penetrated part of the cable. I found out the problem by pure dumb luck. I had removed the screw to work on something else and the HD Sig messages went away.

The open array antenna still rotates. If a belt is broken or off would the antenna still turn?

Thanks for the suggestions
