Default Raymarine, read this before you buy VHF

DO NOT buy the Raymarine 101 Handheld VHF Radio; it is a low Quality piece of junk, I paid $179 for it 2 weeks ago and I am stunned at the large, ugly, hard to hold, press to talk button is very hard to operate and press down, Water seal came off when installing batteries, can’t hail anyone on this radio, poor reception, avoid this VHF at all costs, It’s money down the toilet
The raymarine web site states this radio is new, yet when I called Raymarine to complain about this piece of C--- they said it was discontinued? WHAT your website says new! They were not interested in my phone call and made a joke about it.

What a bunch of miserable corporate asses
.
I like their other products, but next time I will buy someone else’s.

Thanks and do your research

Welcome to Raymarine. Sorry to hear you had to find out what they are all about first hand. Chalk it up to experience and hopefully your next buying experience will be better. Good luck.

I have put in many Raymarine systems in the last year and have always had great support from raymarine. On one C120 the pins in the plug on the unit roke and they swapped it out. missing caples, parts never a problem. Never been on hold over 4 minutes...

Take it back to West Marine, they have a great return policy.

I've had my RAY101 VHF for about 3-4 years now, still has the original batteries inside, I bought it for a backup and also for my kayaking trips off-shore, in my opinion its been working great even though I have dunked it, dropped it and I even forgot it in a bucket of water overnight once, nothing wrong so far. as for the reception, I actually consider the range pretty good for a hand held. The PTT button is easy to use unless you're wearing thick gloves, it takes a little practice to press it in the middle but I did not find it hard to learn.
As far as RM customer service goes, I've had nothing but good experiences with them, but I don't start screaming and yelling at them as soon as they answer.

Seems like you paid full retail (not many people do), take it back, get your money or exchange it for another radio.

"and I am stunned at the large, ugly, hard to hold, press to talk button is very hard to operate and press down,"

Didn't you notice it's "ugliness" before you purchased it?

I would not allow ANYONE to even carry on a Raymarine Radio onto my boat. I'd take there3 GPS, chartplotter, radar or AP in a second, but NEVEr one of there radios.
