Default Garmin GMR 18 radar noise

I just installed a new radar GMR 18 to my 3210. All seem to be working fine but when I power up the radar it sounds like a helicopter is getting ready for lift off from my tower. As I've run it (for about almost 2 Hrs.) the noise has seemed to subside just a little. I do get an excellent picture . Has anyone experienced noise problems with this unit?

I am waiting on one, and would love to hear any pros or cons on the unit. Thanks.

Mine makes the same noise...other than that, it does provide a great picture. I'll get in touch with garmin and let post whatever answer they give me on this forum.

Curious if I can swap out my gmr40 for gmr 18 to try to save some room on my t-top? Is gmr 18 better in any aspect than those old pizza size radomes?
Thanks

Should have better resolution with the 40/41:

GMR 18 = 5.2 deg hor beam width
GMR 40/41 = 3.6 deg hor beam width

Thanks for the feedback. I was lucky to run into a guy from my marina who also just got the same unit. He has his mounted on a radar mount on a fiberglass hard top and is only a little less noisy than mine. Time will tell (will it wear in or wear out)?

I contacted Garmin yesterday and asked about the loud noise...their response was...They know the unit runs "kinda" loud. They do believe the unit is running correctly and there is nothing they can do about the noise.

That's the best I could do. pretty sweet huh...

Mymojo...I sold the buffer on ebay last night...thanks!
