Default What's the BEST VHF antenna for t-top mounting

I mean absolute best...I don't care about brand, I don't care about color, size, anything...I just want it to be the best one money can buy in the sense that it will have the largest possible range and I want to mount it on the top of my t-top.

I know people say height is the limiting factor and I also know I always hear anything over 8' is too much height for a t-top mounted antenna, but I saw a smallish boat the other day with a hardtop mounted (unsupported) 16' antenna, or at least an 8' antenna on an 8' extension, so I'll also hear anyone's opinions on mounting options to get some height.

Thoughts? Looking for the best ability to reach out and touch someone when offshore.

May be a little out of your way but in my opinion these are the best antennas available anywhere......period!

They do export, to where I don't know, contact the company if you are interested.
Yes I do have one and see many on our local professional fishing fleet vessels.

Digital 8-foot, model 529-V. Comes in black or white.

You can even get it with the cable length prepped by Digital so you don't have to make a loose coil of unused coax.

I have two of these connected to my two Icom radios....

And I recommend getting them from Jim at BOE Marine...

Why not a sat phone? I mean since it appears money is not high on the list of priorities. Of the VHF variety, I have and like Morad.

Thanks for the suggestions...

I do have to ask though, if Digital makes a more expensive antenna (the 958) then why two recommendations for the 5-series?

As to the sat phone: I've got enough to buy any foreseeable VHF antenna, but not quite enough to suck up the cost of the phone plus the monthly service. In the future possibly and it's on my list of things to research, but for now I don't have the coin.

The only difference between the Digital Antenna 958 and the 529 are the mounting options. They also have an 829.

All of them are 8 feet and have 6dB of gain.

The 529 comes with pre-attached coax. The 829 comes with a stainless steel double female ferrule and no cable. The 958 has stainless steel brackets for side mounting.

Interestingly enough, all of these antennas have the same MSRP, so if a dealer is charging more for one then another, you might be getting a bad deal unless the dealer cost is different for each one.

Not to mention a sat phone is irrelevant vs. a VHF. Like somebody asking what ceiling fan to buy and telling them to get a refrigerator.
By the way, MSRP on the 958 is 10 bucks more than the other two, but you're right, same antenna other than the features Signal describes.
