Default Simrad CX54 Navstation

Gonna be making the first trip on my friends boat to the otherside this weekend. I have tuned the furunos but haven't got a chance to tune his yet. Wondered if anyone had any experience with tuning the unit to find birds? Anything out of the ordinary at least. Any replies would help.

Here is a link on mysite to download the Simrad Navigation Tutorial DVD.

I converted from DVD to AVI, it's about 435 MB.

All Simrad CX series radars have really good Auto Sea Clutter(STC), and Auto Gain controls. They are designed provide the best Radar picture possible for navigation purposes. However, if you are wanting to see birds than you will need to change the Radar over to manual STC and gain.

It is very easy to do, just go to the radar display page and press the ADJ key, this will activate the cursor on the radar control menu on the right side of the screen. use the track pad to move the highlight box down to the STC control and press the plus(+) or minus(-) key to change the settings. You will probably want to reduce the STC settings and increase the Gain settings. Once you are done for the day you can easily go back to the Auto modes by highlighting the STC or Gain functions and pressing the clear key(CLR) the unit will revert back to auto modes
