Default PERKO BATTERY SWITCH

HELP. HAVING TROUBLE WIRING MY 8501 SWITCH. I DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND PERKOS WIRE DIAGRAM. I HAVE 2 BATTERIES,1 MOTOR,ACCESSORIES,AND 1 SWITCH(OFF,1,ALL,2).
I HAVE RED FROM MOTOR GOING TO COMM.AND BLK FROM MOTOR GOING TO NEG. OF BATT.1(STARTING BATT.).
I HAVE RED FROM FUSE BOX ALSO GOING TO COMM.
BATTERY 1 POS. IS GOING TO IMPUT 1 & BATT.2 POS.IS GOING TO IMPUT 2 ON THE SWITCH. BOTH NEG.TERMINALS OF BATTERIES ARE BRIDGED TOGETHER.
NOW MY QUESTION... I ALSO HAVE A BLACK WIRE COMING TO THE BACK OF THE BOAT WITH HTE RED ONE FROM THE FUSE BOX. WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS WIRE. I HAVE TRIED TO CONNECT IT TO NEG. OF EITHER BATTERY. MY RESULTS ARE EVERYTHING(MOTOR,GAS GAUGE,BILDGE,LIVE WELL,RADIO) IS ON IN ALL SWITCH POSITIONS EXCEPT OFF. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Wrong ?? Nothing at all ... that's the way you want it !

The reason they were all ON except when the switch was OFF is that when switched to #1, battery #1 was feeding the circuits you put to the common (OB & dash feed), as was #2 when you switched to that position, and so weree BOTH batteries #1 & #2 when you switched to ALL. Got it??

One tip to run your batteries equally, use the #1 battery on odd days of the week, like today April 23rd. Run #2 on even days. There are other ways ... some run out on battery #1 and fish on it then run back on #2.

Read this post here: http://floridasportsman.zeroforum.co...hread?id=64892 specially the post by Dunk, about 2/3rds of thway down ... worth reading !

PHILLY9... Here is another thread that might give a little insight: http://thehulltruth.com/6/ubb.x?a=tp...2&r=2536085582 Reel-Rascals has it right! Oh, incidently when you use all CAPS you are shouting, Welcome aboard. This topic goes into the catorgy; "The more you know, the more you don't know."

Philly, you need to capitalize the 1st word in a sentence. We're all college grads here, ya know!

SORRY! I didn't know a college degree was a requirment. I thought this sight was for sharing with all boating enthusiasts, not just the ones that learned to type. Anyway,Thanks again to Reel-Rascals.

Chill out! If it was, we'd loose 90% of the boaters/members here.

Philly9:

You're most welcome ! Acknowledging input will go a long way on any forum.

Don't worry about some of the other posts, rather ... learn to "read" the icons. Like if I'm kidding you, I'll put a "wink" icon like this after my post. If I'm really pullin' your leg, then you might see the or smile after the post, where someone was kidding you about the college degree requirement. But those can also mean just plain ol' "smiles" or "big grins".

Last but not least, you can't take some things in cyberspace to heart, as its easy to be misinterpreted.

Welcome aboard ... and remember, it's all about boating (read: smile) !
