Default Furuno fish finders

I need some advice on which fish finder I should buy to install on my 24' Albemarle. I have narrowed the search to the mono LCD Furuno 6100 and the color LCD Furuno 600L. My main question is the added cost of the color unit worth it. All opinions would be greatly appreciated. Please don't limit opinions to just these units either. Thanks for the input in advance.

I vote yes. Color, as in what most of the magazines are saying, makes it much easier to spot the fish. It doesn’t make any difference how good the sensor and electronics are, if you can’t see those tiny little dots on the screen. Most of the time, when you are fishing, you are busy and not able to sit still, directly in front the screen. Color helps you spot the fish much easier.

Of the 3 main electronics – radar, GPS, FF; FF is the most important to have in color.
My opinion,
Don

PS I just read that JRC is developing a 10” color, 3kw FF. I hope it’s available before I have to purchase one in June. With their good prices and performance, it will probably out perform anything in its price range.

Definately the 600L is the way the go especially with a boat like yours. You might also check out a JRC FF50 ( a few more $). Bigger screen and sunlight readable along with more power (600 watts vs 350 for the 600L). This JRC unit is Furuno's 582's ( another great machine) competitor and worth a serious look. Unfortunately, the $50 rebate program expired 3/31/03.

Bethel-Marine has a pretty good price on both machines.

good luck

I second what Codfisher said.

With everything I've read, Furuno's 600L & 582L is probably the best out there; without going over the top on cost.

As I like to say, "You can't have it if you don't spend the money". Get the color, you will have it for a long time.

Once bitten, twice shy

The rebate is still in effect, till June30.I just recieved my 600l today and got the rebate form.Three rivers had an excellent deal and had it on my door step the same day they said it would be. I'm going to call them tomorrow and explain the bennies of being a THT sponsor when I order my temp. sensor. After all I did learn about them here!

Diffently color, I installed a Furuno 600L a couple years ago. Big difference, this past August I changed out the transom ducer for a thru-hull with an Airmar highspeed flaring block, WOW no interference with air bubbles. I can read the bottom at 30+ mph.

SPEND THE EXTRA.

Good luck in your purchase.

The rebate that expired on 3/31/03 was for the JRC FF50. As stated the Furuno rebate program is still in effect.

I added a 600l a couple of weeks ago. I ordered mine from three rivers as well. You will not disappinted at all. This is the first color machine I have ever owned and after 2 trips I can see a big diff and would not go back to the monochrome.

600L owner for three years....would never go back to mono. Think you'll love the difference.

I had one on my previous boat it was awesome, wouldn't consider anything else in that size boat. You will be very pleased. I also owned the 582L and it was terrific as well, but I thought the 600L was brighted to view. D2
