Default Garmin 498 & Icom 422 DSC compatibility

Any advice or comments regarding wiring (diagram) and functional features would be appreciated. Does the 422 receive NMEA strings only or does it communicate same back to the 498 too? Any specific features to note? Thank you.

The 498 has position reporting so you would be able to see the position on your GPS of a similarly equipped boat when you do a position request. Your 422 receives and passes back the necessary information to your GPS.

Thanks for your help. I might be making the concept more diffficult than it really is. When performing a position request (or a destress call, etc.) - it would appear only on other equipted boat's units, as your GPS knows where you are anyhow?

Put your 498 in the simulation mode and you'll see what it all looks like. Here's a video I did on DSC.
