Default NMEA Question Icom 502 to Garmin 182C

I installed a new iCom M502 this weekend and attempted to get my Gamin 182C to send it a signal. I seem to have failed somewhere. Here's what I have done.

I stripped the wires coming from the 502 and attached the red (NMEAin+) to the green coming off the 182c (NMEA Out+). I took the white from the 502 (NMEA out+) and went to the white on the 182c (NMEA in+). Both the negatives on the NMEA wires coming from the 502 were spliced together and attached to the negative side of a bus bar. The GPS and radio both work fine but they will not talk to one another. I set the 'Comm" feature on the GPS to NMEA In/Out.

Any other ideas?

NMEA Wires on the Garmin are the Green (out) and white (in) ones.

Also make sure you have your MMSI # programmed in the M502.

All grounds are going to the same bus bar. Do you mean I should use the same ground post?

MMSI # has been entered

you dont need your mmsi number to be programmed for the 502 to display position.

do you have a multimeter? set it for dc voltage and probe the nmea output of the garmin, you should see some fluctuating voltage from 1-3 volts.
