I have a Clarion CMD-4. Nice radio. It includes an extra set of non-fadeable rca outputs. I purchased a 100 watt MZ-100 from Poly Planar. This has a nice feature in that it includes a built in remote volume control. I installed this amp along with a pair of MA-7500 speakers (also from Poly Planar). These speakers are supposed to match the amp.
The CMD-4 has a controllable output for the non-fadeable output. I set it full on at +6. I set the input on the MZ-100 amp to full on.
With the remote control full on I hardly get any volume out of the MZ-100.
HELP!
What can I do to get more volume? What's wrong with this setup?

i am looking at the specs on that amp, and its rated at 25 x 4 RMS a 2 ohms. this would only be about 12.5 watts per channel into a 4 ohm speaker. the amp in the clarion will put out more power than that. seems like a waste of money to use it if you already have a clarion cmd4. i think its put to better use if you dont have an indash radio and are just connecting an ipod to it directly. do you already have 4 speakers connected to the clarion?
if you still want to use it, i would suggest trying one of the other sets of rca outputs on the clarion just to see if you can get a decent volume level from them. this way you can isolate the problem. if it plays louder on a different set of preouts, then you know its an issue with the non-fade output.

I am using the four channels on the Clarion to power two speakers in the cockpit, two in the salon. I wanted to have two more on the flybridge. The clarion powered speakers work great. You are correct in that the Poly Planar is terribly anemic power wise but I would expect more than I am getting. Otherwise what's the point of the dang thing. I did try the other line outputs to see if it got any better. It didn't.
I am wondering about whether increasing the line output on the clarion would help. It would be using something like this:
http://store.xmfanstore.com/linedriver.html
I talked to Poly Planar before I bought this thing and they assured me it would be enough power.
I'd just give up on the Poly Planar but I need a separate volume control in the Flybridge.

i usually use a seperate amp with a waterproof volume control. like this http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/s...999=WFROOGLEB3 when i install seperate cockpit speakers.
i wonder if the polyplanar amp needs to be connected to a polyplanar stereo for it to work right? you shouldnt need a line driver for it to work right.
