What is the best ap for a 30 marlin with twin yamaha 250 ox66, and what is the bare bones minimum? I guess I am looking for which one if money is no issue and which one if money is an issue that would keep you from getting top of the line? Thanks

If you fish or cruise, the best is here:

the only other one to consdier is a SIMRAD AP 16
the reason these are your two choices is every other AP uses a rudder feedback sensor that tends to corrode - the ones above are sophisitacted enuf not to need one...less com-plexity and better software...

Agree with the post above...go with a virtual feedbakc unit.....Easier install, less to break.....very accurate...I have the Simrad AP 26 and it works flawlessly AND runs a "Shadow drive" so i don't have to put it on standby to make a course correction.....Just grab the wheel and go.....release the wheel and the AP goes right back to its' set course........

shadow drive is a trademark of TR-1 and works quite differently - investigate the diff if you buy... . TR-1 actaully disengages the AP when the wheel is turned thru a valving system, Sinrad does not...the tr-1 disengage is much quicker and can be adjusted for your personal style... I have driven both - with the simrad you are just overriding the AP...not as quick in an emergency....

Glen,
Not sure how it works....But I'll have to disagree and say that when I grab my wheel I get instant response....It couldn't possible be any quicker as it is just as if the AP was not engaged.
However, TR-1's are known to be excellent AP's and perform very well with OB's.....
