Default transducer problem

Garmin 498c with dual frequency transom mount transducer- worked perfectly for 20 hours at all speeds, suddenly starts working intermittently- temperature reading always works (I assume accurately) depth will "freeze", sometimes at slow speeds it will start working on its own, but then it will freeze again when accellerated. I don't know of any contact with objects, etc, although I did have it in pretty shallow water before the problem was first noted. (By the way, the GPS fundtions fine.)

Is there something that I can do? (I'm planning on installing a seperate fishfinder soon, anyway, but would still like a dependable back up.

Sounds to me that the angle of the transducer has changed. It could have happened in shallow water or by bouncing on a wave/wake. First try tilting the rear of the transducer down one notch at a time and note the results.
