Default Radar Question

I just bought a used boat with a Raytheon R70 48 mile radar.
Upon the survey we found that the antenna was not transmitting and it was agreed that it would be fixed ar a new replacement would be purchased by the original owner.

So far it has been determined that the Magnatron is probably wasted.
I called the guy who has installed the electronics on my last 3 boats and he said that the Magnatron is kind of like a light buld and the usually blow after alot of use.
So I think that we have determined that the radar has alot of use or it was left on at the dock for an undetermined amount of time. Or the Magnatron was just bad.
Either way my question is this:

Is there a way to tell how many hours a radars transmitter has on it?

I thought that I had read a few post that discussed this but I can't find any.
If someone knows how to get this on the screen of the radar that I have please let me know.

Thanks

Did you mean RL70? if so, I think there is a TX time in the menus, but it's hidden, and a little tricky to get to, and I don't remember the details. I'd call Raymarine service for help.

I think it is the R70. It has a crt tube. Isn't the RL70 an LCD? It's about 6 years old.
Anyway I will call Raymarine tommorow.
Thanks
for the info.....
I thought there was a timer in there somewhere..
How are the furuno 1833's?

The R 70 would be Raytheon I believe--and would be at least 6 years old--a CRT unit--and the 4 KW would be the 48 mile scanner. The older magnatron units did have a definative life of 1000 to 3000 hours. It is shot, it is shot--and you either have to find a new magnatron or buy a new radar...

The manual for this radar is at: http://www.raytechonline.com/raymari...SB_CRTDisp.pdf

Thanks for the help.
I am guessing it is not worth fixing.
If the Magnatron has that many hours than I guess the crt is also getting ready to go...

Yup, my bad- the R70 was the crt version.

I think it is time for a new radar. The 1833 is a good unit, but I'd hold out for the Navnet Vx3. The current Raymarine products ( Cseries/Eseries) are really great units, and you should definatly take a good look at them, too.

Prodigalson, any thoughts as to the timing for Navnet Vx3?

Thanks
