Default Raymarine autopilot Not Calabrating

Installing a St6002 control head with a S1000 core package. The problem I am running into is with the linear feedback tube.Going into the dealer set up,I am getting to the point of setting the feedback from port and starboard. After checking the amount when turnning the wheel both ways(port shows 10 and starboard shows 12),the instructions state to set the limits 5 drg below max limits. It will not go below 15 drg.So I am unable to set those limits.Anybody had this problem?Any idea to fix this?I tryed to call Raymarine,no help there.I did email them too with no help yet.Thanks.

The S1000 is a complete system & does not require a display like the ST6002. It has a wireless controller

The S1/S2/S3 series of computers do require a display

It it SeaTalk compatible, but do the instructions indicate the it can be controlled/calibrated by a wired display ?

Another thing is you mention a linear feedback tube. If you have Teleflex steering with the rotating cylinder, you have the wrong feedback unit. It will get destroyed in short order.

I think we need more information before we can help you.

I guess I don't understand why you had to use a rudder feedback with the S1000?

I am asuming that you mean S1 core pack.

the limit is to set up the unit so it doesn't try to drive the hydralics past the stops. If you are only swinging 10-12 degrees, something is wrong. are you turning all the way to the stops? with outboards, I expect to see at least 20 degrees either side.

SOmething sounds very wrong here.

Thanks guys.It is a S1 core package with a ST6002 control head.Steering system is a Hynautic system.Full over to port from starboard is 7 1/4 turns. The motors do turn all the way. When installing the linear tranducer,I had pull it out till center line as instructions, then center the motor, install it.I did go back and moved it a hair to get it were it was showing center on the control head.So now it reads 12 one way and 12 the other way full over.Motors are still turning all the way over.
Now get this, raymarine say disreguard that part of the set up.WHAT?Dam thing will bust something if I let it go.Ain't that some crap! Thanks guys, anymore ideas?

prockvoan,

I'm pretty sure that your steering is made by Teleflex. And I'm willing to bet that your steering cylinder is one of those "rotating" types that will destroy your feedback unit. An easy way to tell is to look at the cylinder with the engines centered. Then watch the cylinder as you turn the wheel. If the cylinder rolls either up or down when you turn the wheel and the ram moves in or out - you have a rotating cylinder unit.

I was in the same situation with my previous boat. I ended up contacting Raymarine, gave them my steering model, and they told me that I needed the "potted" rotary feedback unit. They provided it to me at about !00 - 125 plus my destroyed linear feedback unit.

My recommendation - don't waste your time trying to get this aligned 'cause you'll have to do it all over again when you get the correct feedback unit. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry to have wasted your time.

Prock - I agree with Joe - I had two RM uniits with rudder feedback on opti's...a 2001 and a 2004 unit. Both were installed by a top flight RM installer here in Ft laud. Even in 2001 they would not go near a linear unit and had gone to the potted rotary unit. Never had a problem with the ducer or the bracket they used. PM Elusive - he has some pics of his rotary install and bracket...

If you go with a rotary feedback you have to get the kit that includes the epoxy-filled sensor & brackets

The Hynautic rams I have look just like seastar(teleflex) rams.Didn't check to see if they rotate. Will do that after I get off work today.Another thing I will check is to make sure that the transducer is good by disconnecting it and pulling it all the way out/in.
