Default Battery Charging Question

I have a Twin Engine three battery setup. 2 starting 1 house. All batteries are optima blue top deep cycle (D34m). House and starboard start batteries have a BlueSea ACR in between them. Port battery is just a start on its own there is a switch to combine the two starting batteries in emergency.

Three questions

1. Since there is a combiner between the start and house will a dual bank charger/ maintainer keep all batteries charged or do I still need a three bank?

2. I believe these are Gel batteries so is there a type of charger that works best with these batteries?

3. What brand of charger/maintainer should I be looking for? I will leave it hooked to shore power when the boat is not in use and would like something completely automatic.

Thanks in advance Lee

these are not gel batts, they are AGM's - which charge just like any regular battery. Get a 3 stage smart charger from Promainer, Guest or other reputible brands and have fun. You can keep the charger on and running 24/7 when in storage...

email me for a PDF file on batteries and charging - too long to publish here.... [email protected]

The Xantrex XC-3012 is a 3 bank charger. Comes with a remote display that functions as a voltage
meter when the charger is off. You can set up each bank as a different type of battery, if you want to.
It's a bit large, though. The temp. probe is nice to have, too.

I have a Xantrex XC3012 which I installed last year along with three Cabelas Grp 30 AGM's. So far it has been excellent. I bought a temp probe for each battery as well. The charger comes with only one probe.
