don't do it for an outboard boat - do either a simrad AP 16 or a TR-1....big diff in performance....you really want no rudder feedback long term....and they work better....

Lots of folks on here disagree with the 'ever so vocal' Mr. Glen E.

I say DO IT, good value for the money.

But who do you expect to be giving you quotes? Try some vendors sites.

yeah that's right... add a componet you don't need - I'm not pro TR-1, I'm anti rudder feedback when you don't need it...

My last boat (Wellcraft 290 Coastal w/ twin Evinrude FICHTs) did very well with the Raymarine ST6001 & S1G combination - AFTER I got the correct rudder reference unit. It came with the linear rudder ref unit, and my Teleflex rotating cylinder steering destroyed it. The sealed rotary reference unit worked flawlessly.

TheBandid - do your own research and then decide. If you already have Raymarine onboard (i.e. C or E series displays), being able to connect the units via SeaTalk vice NMEA is a real plus.

I have had nothing but problems with the raymarine 6001. I can't agree more with Glen E about that lack of rudder feedback.....less is more in this situation. Simrad gets my vote.

I've had nothing but problems with my st6002 s1-g, it is broken more often than it has worked. If $$$ is the contributing factor in not choosing the tr-1 then i'd suggest saving fot it, I wish I had. I've been without the AP 9 outta the 12 months it's been installed. Sure, RM keeps sending replacement parts with no questions and my original factory installer keeps replacing them but what's the point.
