Default Mounting a FF to Top of Console

Just purchased a Furuno 620 and plan on mounting it to the top of my Console. I will need to drill a couple of holes to route the wires through. What is the best way to seal off the holes? Is there a grommet available or other suitable means of making it watertight?

Most home improvement stores carry grommets of different sizes. A little silicon can be used to seal the hole. If you cannot find a grommet, you can take a piece of plastic or rubber tubing about 3" long and just large enough for the units cable to run through. Drill the hole on the console the size of the tubings OD and use the tubing as a grommet.

A couple of alternatives:

1. Use one of those stainless steel clamshells and fill it with silicone.

2. There are a number of waterproof thru-deck fittins on page 32 of the 2007 West Marine catalog. Goto www.westmarine.com and search their part numbers 540740, 540732, 540757.

Clamshell vents or cable clams with silcone around the wiring.
