The maps really suck for this unit . Does anyone use a different chip ? and which is the best one for south Florida for greater detail , as far as channel markers and depths go. I noticed what comes with the unit does not show any of these .

there are different types of maps built in. you can select the one with the nautical detail. it has all markers, depths in shades of color and with the 'clutter' on, it shows batho lines with feet.

you may already know all this. sorry if its a repeat. but we have been using the charts for a couple of years now, and i can navigate the ICW at nite, by wire, with no problem.

cheers.

I love the programmed charts in mine, I thought they show great detail.

Did you go into map screen and play with the different ones. I think Nautic Path is what I usually stay on.

PA , no I didn't I'll have to get the owners manual out and open up that screen . I thought it was pretty lame what was on mine . So I should be able to get alot more detail with going into the menu and choosing nautic path ?

Start on page 152 in your manual. You should find all the info you need there.

I had C-map for my raymarine and the built in ones for my 111. If you think there is more detail on the c-map chips, you are mistaken. Bottom contours, tide direction, tidal info, wreck markings are all more detailed on my nautic path charts that my c-map chart. Not sure about the navionics charts, although I'm sure the Fish 'n Chip has better Bathy charts than the nautic path charts.

I forgot once you play with the different charts make sure you zom in far enough cause you will see allot better detail.
Wife gets mad at me all the time when I am in the driveway zooming in all over the ocean checking places out.
