Default Backing/façade inside of console

Picked up boat last Thursday (2100SV Sea Pro). Out at the lake Saturday & Sunday breaking in the Opti and today 1st installment of electronics showed from BOE, ICOM 422.

VHF & FF will go on top on console, VHF & stereo flush mounted.

Was thinking about putting sort of "backing" in the console to screw in tie straps, cable clamps, bus bar, etc. to clean up the wiring. Would love to glue it to the inside rather than drilling holes & bolting it on. From reading here sounds like gluing starboard (1st thought) is gonna be tough.

Is this a reasonable idea?

Any suggestions? Better strategy?

BTW was gonna ask about tips about cutting holes in the console but search turned up two good threads.

marine grade plywood and fiberglass matting would be your best bet to secure a mounting plate.

Correct, you're not going to glue starboard.
I'd 5200 a piece of plywood in there. Since it's not going to get wet I don't see the need to glass it, but I'd paint it to keep it from mildewing.

I hate wood- if God intended man to build boats of it, it would come in 55 gal drums.

I'd cosider thru bolting a piece of Starboard, or a few pieces- and as it is rather heavy, I'd space 1/4 or 3/8 off about a 1/4 inch, so I wasn't worryied about the screws going into the glass.

Thanks. Hadn't thought about that. Perfect!

I can bolt the starboard backing boards (to screw the starboard "backing" into) with the external bolts heads out of sight behind the backrest for the forward seat/livewell.

I've had good results by attaching these 2 types of cable tie mounts w / 5200

The stick-on clips in that lower pix will NOT stay in place on a roven Woven finish inside the console. It takes a smooth gellcoated surface.

I use 3/4in plywood with all the edges beveled at 45deg. Cover the wood with 4oz glass cloth, not mat. It will conform very easy. This plywood panel is glued into place with epoxy/Cabisol mix.

I use the clips in the top pix to fasten the wiring.

Panel on right.

You can glue Azek, perhaps this would work. You can work it just like wood.

I'm such a terrible typist/speller, I always compose in Word & cut & past.

Billy Gates, I recon , decided the "c" needed a little squiggly.

Thanks for the other suggestions.
