Default Garmin 3006 & GMR-40 & 320 Sounder & VHF/DSC NMEA?

I have a Garmin 3006 C with the following connected:
GPS 17 NMEA Port4
GMR 40 Garmin Network
Icom 502 NMEA in/out Port 1
Garmin 320 Sounder NMEA IN Port 2

I would like to add a KVH heading sensor. The Garmin Install Guide says I can input 1 NMEA device each on Port 1 & 2.

Is there any way to add the KVH without removing the input for either the 320 sounder or the ICOM DSC?

you would need to add a multiplexer like this

http://www.nolandengineering.com/nm42.php

this will combine all your inputs into one data stream that you can plug into a single port on garmin.

i would combine the sounder data and the kvh heading sensor onto port 2 using the multiplexer.

That is an interesting device. I have considered disconnecting the input to the 3006c from the Icom 502. I would leave the output from the 3006c to the Icom 502 so the Icom would continue to get lat-lon data for DSC.

I have never used the DSC display features on the 3006c in the 2.5 years I have had it.

Would I be giving up anything important I don't know about?

Seacat,

You would give up the ability to receive and display on your chartplotter emergency and non-emergency position information feceived via your VHF. You have the capability now, and hopefully more in your area will learn that it is possible to shoot positions from boat to boat without using any voice transmissions.

IMHO, get a multiplexer and don't reduce your capabilities.

it depends on if you want to shell out 200 bucks (cost for that multiplexer) for a feature that you havent used in 2.5 years. that is the only fuction that you would lose.
