Default NEW Cseries Software.

Ray marine has just released the lastest version of the operating software for the Cseries units.

It adds:

SR-50 (sirus weather and audio) capability

animated tides and currents

NMEA "MDA" (meterological Data) sentence (allows it to read the Airmar Weather sensor)

Raymarine Autopilot control through the Cseries display

Navionics Platinum support, BUT no 3D charting or aerial overlay.

For Full info, see:

FYI, they are still showing 3.18 at the download link. I wouldn't doubt that 4.25 should be available in the VERY short term.

Your right. they sent me a direct link to the 4.25 down load, but the link on that page goes to 3.18. They likely update the link soon.

Looks like some great enhancements. Me, I always like to let others be the first to apply new updates to see if there are any bugs. I hate being 80 miles offshore and my electronics start acting up.

I too wait awhile before updating. Way too often I read about software updates that make someones life a living hell. I'll give it a few months.

If you're worried about software updates being a problem, you can always carry a SanDisk card with the previous version on board. It takes about one minute to revert. I picked up several SanDisk cards on ebay for under $10 and a reader/writer for under $15. Makes it very handy for storing various wapoint groups and software upgrades.

Thanks for the info

Is there any benefit to the Platinum cartography if 3D charting and the aerial overview are not used ?

Are all RM autopliots supported ? Is it via SeaTalk only ?

The Raymarine site has been updated. It has links to download versions 4.25, 3.18, and a v2. something.

Elusive - the Raymarine site that the first link goes to states "Raymarine autopilots" and I'm betting it's only via SeaTalk. I'm looking forward to that functionality in the E-series soon.

edit - I was just reading the updated features in the Raymarine manual and came across this nugget - something that will help any of us who fish coastal for Striper and must worry about the 3 mile line:

2.2 Range rings
Range rings give you an incremental representation of distance from your vessel to help you judge distances at a glance. The rings are always centred on your vessel, and the scale varies to suit your current zoom setting. Each ring is labelled with the distance from your vessel.

Those range rings look like a nice feature.
