Default operating the furuno 1715

went out yesterday on the first trip with the new 1715...went word for word with the manual and still it doesnt matter what mile range i have it on there is allway splotches and blogs showing up on the screen that shouldnt be??? i have it on a 7 in bracket and there is nothing that should be interfering...i do have a pole light bracket aft of radome but i hear that shouldnt affect operation of radar.....any suggestions as to what is going on?? thanks Stephen

I had the same strange blotches showing on mine the first time I used it also. Finally realized I just needed the fat chick on the bow to sit down...

But seriously, now you just have to learn to fine tune the settings: gain, A/C Rain and A/C Sea. You just need some experiance adjusting the radar to the conditions and your preferences. troll posted a neat set of instructions on setting the gain and filters, should be easy to find by searching his posts in this forum.
