Default In the electronics box or in the console

I've got a real virgin Sea Hunt 232 with an electronics box in the T-top. The question is should I mount my VHF and GPS in the box or flush mount in the console. I have plenty of space either way but I was wondering about sunlight glare and angle. The flush mounted equipment looks very cool but I'm thinking up in the box would reduce glare and certainly easier to do. Theft is not a concern, only functionality, looks, and my labor.
Guess I could mount them in the box and move to the console later if I wanted.
Any negatives to putting the electronics up in the box?

VHF in the box, no problem unless you boat with short people and they need to get to it in an emergency.
There has been alot of discussion about where to mount FF and GPS. Flush mounting is nice if the mount is in good line of site. Alot of flush mounts I have seen are somewhat out of good site, meaning to low or off to the wrong side. I have Myy FF/GPS mounted in a bracket on the console top and another GPS in the box along with the VHF and CD player.

Most LCD displays have a biased veiwing angle, in most cases, looking up at them at an angle makes them 'fade'

your periphial [sp?] vision is better at the bottom than the top- looking down. you lose more horizon than looking up.

routing wiring and cables to the console is usually easier than routing them to the Ebox.

It is easier to make adjustments and operate equipment mounted below your shoulders than above them.

Don't put anything up there that requires frequent or extended viewing. Your neck will not forgive you and it takes the front view while moving out of your peripheral sight. On the short people note thats a good call. I just installed an electronics box and didn't consider how difficult it would be for my 8 year old son to reach the vhfs and use them. Luckily he's agile and can climb up onto the console.

things you look at to operate/navigate the boat - down below

things you occaisionaly check - (VHF, stereo, etc) - in the box....

it's really that simple.....

Thanks for the feedback. This is very helpful before I start drilling and cutting.

Everything in the console, even the vhf. Think about watching your radar for 5 hours in fog and looking up. As was already said it is easier to look down and your back and neck won't kill you at the end of the day.jmo.

I had gps, fishfinder & the vhf mounted in the electronic box & I hated it. Try to read your gps while your cruising in the chop it's impossible most of the time I had to stop the boat to read it. New boat I mounted the vhf in the box & everything else in the console & it works perfect.
