Default furuno fcv 292???

I spoke with a salesman about this unit He says it is discontinued because its a crt and is not sunlight viewable. Does anyone have any experience with this unit? What are the pros and cons?

Thanks

That is very true you can't see the color in direct sun light. I use a 562 crt and in the amber mode you can see it just fine in any light condition. However, if you use the hood and get close to the screen you will be able to see it just fine in color. As far as quality and definition goes LCD just can't match the crt. That includes the 240x640 tft LCD's there selling right now.

i just put a 292 on my new 35' charter boat...i bought it back in december and it was the last one i could find on the east coast...i have the hood for it and have used it a half dozen times without a problem. if you shine sunlight directly on it, yes, it's hard to see. but where mine is mounted (in an enclosed wheelhouse with tinted windows), it's just not an issue. i compared a lot of crt to lcd units and talked to a lot of commercial fishermen that have used both, and they pretty much all agreed that they liked the 292 pictured better for target discrimination...

when someone tells you it's hard to see in direct sunlight, you've got to really think about how often that would be an issue...
