Default Furuno 1621 radar problems....

Yesterday, i turned it on just to operate it like I do periodically. It gives a few sweeps with returns but then spits out a couple of error messages and the screen returns disappear. I will update these error messages when I have a chance.

This unit is about 7-8 years old. I have replaced the magnetron once already to the tune of $500. This latest problem seems identical to losing the magnetron but in the earlier event, no error messages displayed.

Anyone have any ideas??

More info...

"HD-SIG-MISS" and "BP-SIG-MISS" are the 2 error messages. The manual identifies these as heading and bearing pulse input. All it says to do for trouble shooting is to check the cable connection.

While I was checking that, I also made sure the connectors were clean. I guess I will have to return it to Furuno.

Anybody else been down this road??

There is a drive belt in the upper unit that synch the rotating antenna with the display unit. check to see if that belt is broken or "derailed".

I have a working display with cables if needed.

Radome does not work properly, but send me a PM if interested.......maybe you could use it for parts.

I looked into the radome today. Antenna rotates freely and is operated directly from a geared spindle. Is the belt you are talking about buried within the electronics? Do i need to pull components off the base in order to find it? I did re-check all the connections while I was in there.

After talking to a dealer who spoke with a Furuno rep...they have ordered me a replacement motor to turn the reflector. Cost will be less than $150 if I install it myself.

I hope this works.

Grady Do you still have the 1621 display unit?? I have a 1621 raydome that works but I cant seem to get the display to boot up anymore. It worked two weeks ago but not now.
Anyway how much do you want for the display??
