Default battery combiner

I'm thinking about installing a Furuno 1953c Navnet myself (am I crazy?). I want to isolate the starting battery bank from the house battery bank which I'll use just for electronics. Because of the power requirements of the 53 I was thinking of using two 12v optimas in series for 24v output. I wanted to use a combiner(s) for charging but am not sure how to hook em up. I've reviewed the links to Yandina and looked at the schematics, but they all relate to 12v systems. Can I use my outboard alternators to charge both the 12v starter bank and the house bank and if so, how? If not, any recommendations. Thanks

catmandu:
I did install an isolator which allowed me to charge either starting battery while trolling. I have dual outboards, and on ocassion would find one battery to be low. I do not have the expertise to answer your question, but try contacting:

mike@hellroaring.com

He was very helpful, I did purchase my isolator from their company (website: Hellroaring.com). I had many questions about how to wire this, what was needed, could I do myself, etc. Mike was very patient and answered them all.
Good luck....

pretty tough to make a 24v system live off of 12v alternators - why not go with the 12v version of 1953c?

Thanks for the feedback.

Chaps...I think that 12v is going to be the way to go. The main advantage of smaller wires in the 24v system is a nominal benefit.
