Default Power loss of in hull Tducer

Hi,
Was hoping someone would have a rough idea of the amount of power loss shooting a ducer through hull. Im installing an M260 1Kw in my ali hull which will be in a wet box shooting though a peice of 10mm poly carbonate material. When I have this done I will post some pics to THTers for all you ali boaters as this has been brought up before. A friend of mine reckons I will lose half power but Im guessing max loss of about 20%. Anyone have any experience with loss though glass hulls as a comparison. Also what is the best fluid to fill the wet box up with. I've heard radiator fluid, vegetable oil just not sure which one will perform better. We are going to weld the box in on the weekend. Thanks
Regards
Ray

Redemperor.

I run a M260 in my 20' bertram BahiMar. Where I placed the ducer is about 12-13 mm thick. I see down to the sounders max depth (on manual) 2500 feet with great detail. At Pt stephens this year I could see marlin hanging off the bottom of bait schools on the shelf. Before I repowered my boat I was contemplating building a plate boat and doing exactly what you are doing now. I think it will work perfectly. Fill the tank up with ethylene glycol (non toxic radiator fluid) These ducers were designed to fire through up to 1 " of fibreglass so I dont think you will lose much. Up where you fish the water is not that deep anyway. So you will only be using a small percentage of the ducers power. But what you will notice because of the larger number of elements in the ducer is a high level of detail.

Thanks pri6748. Thats a good comparison I can gauge mine on. Good to know you can see such detail at that depth over east. Yeh the deepest I will be fishing will be about 150m max mostly reds and baldies. Mostly looking for coral and sponge so the multi element 260 should be fine then shooting through a 10mm material in picking up this bottom. Thanks mate
