Default Small color FF

My old fishfinder died on me last weekend. It was a crusty old Raytheon, monochrome unit that covered the basics(depth/temp). I have a Wellcraft 180 Fish.

I rarely fish in water deeper than 100' and need something with good shallow water capability and function up to about 40 kts.

I don't need color but would like to go that route. I wouldn't mind GPS in the same unit as well.

Any suggestions for a good, dependable bracket mounted unit to replace my busted one?? Don't want to break the bank either. Thanks.

Maybe a Humminbird 343c?? Even brand help would be appreciated. I'm wading through online reviews and opinions that are only worth so much....I'd rather hear it from a fellow THTer

I'm sure the 1st question is going to be how much are you willing to spend or what kind of price range are you looking. I have also been looking for electronics & researching. From what I've found out seems like Furuno FCV 620($677) & FCV-585($1130) are the best stand alone fishfinders. As far as combo units I've been looking at Raymarine A65($1400), it seems to be a favorite for this price range. I'm sure you'll get many opposing suggestions, but this is what I've found out from my research in these price ranges. I would recommend you searching under Marine electronics Q&A forum on this site to get some recommendations. Good Luck!

flybyme- let me know what you think about the 400.

scout-thanks for the info. I'm not spending that kind of money right now. I only need it for 100' or less with no radar/satelite/etc hookups.

18' boat, sounder only, no peripherals. I would highly recommend doing an Ebay search for a Lowrance X85. You can find them dirt cheap and its a super reliable, fish finding, bottom tracking sun of a gun. I can think of three charter boats here that run them a s back ups for the big machines. I too run a X-85 behind the scenes from my main unit. It marks bait better than my Furuno. It is monochrome though.
